What is Brain Play?
Brain Play is Trivia Tycoon's seasonal rankings and Championship for top trivia teams. Qualifying teams are invited to a single-game Championship event to claim the title of Brain Play Champion for the season.
When does Season 1 of Brain Play start?
The race begins the week of Monday, June 22nd, 2026. The qualifying season runs for exactly 13 weeks. The last night of rankings will be on Thursday, September 17th, 2026.
How do we qualify for Season 1 of Brain Play?
The most important thing is to make sure your team is playing under a registered team account. Every time your team plays a Standard Trivia Tycoon game, your scores are tracked on the Brain Play Leaderboard. (Our Trivia Lite format is a lighter version and is not eligible for the rankings.)
Do we have to play all 13 weeks?
To keep the track fair for teams who might have to miss a week or have a bad night in the "pit stop," we only count your team's top 10 highest weekly ranked games.
How does scoring and ranking work during the 13 weeks of Brain Play?
Season standings are updated weekly based on your final placement at each individual trivia night. If your team plays multiple nights in one week across different venues, only your best overall ranking game from that week counts toward your standings.
"My team finished with 90 points tonight, do those points go towards our season rankings?"
Your team's actual score isn't factored directly into the rankings. It's a ranking system based on your standing amongst all teams playing per night. You might get 90 points and first place at your bar, but if 5 teams at a different bar that same night got over 90 points, they would rank ahead of you for that night.
How many teams are invited to the Championship?
At the end of the 13 weeks, the top 15 teams on the Brain Play Leaderboard receive an exclusive invitation to our high-stakes, single-game championship event.
How many players can play during Brain Play?
Just like a typical Trivia Tycoon game, we cap our team players at 8. If you have a team larger than 8 players, no biggie. We give you a handicap of -2 points per person over 8. (At the Championship, your team size max is 8 players.)
What happens if a team is caught cheating during Brain Play?
Just like in a standard Trivia Tycoon game, cheating in any form is forbidden. Googling, AI chat, or any other form of outside help will result in an immediate black flag (disqualification) for the week and potential removal from the tournament.
Can we change our team name during the Brain Play season?
Of course! Just like in our standard Trivia Tycoon games, you can change your team name each time you play. Just make sure you're logged into your team account and you're good to go!
What can we expect at the Championship Event?
The top 15 teams go head-to-head in an exclusive, high-energy, single-game trivia showdown. Expect BIG PRIZES, exclusive swag, and trophies for the teams that finish on the podium (1st, 2nd, and 3rd place).
Does Brain Play or the Championship cost anything?
It's always free to play a Trivia Tycoon game. Just make sure to indulge in food and drinks at the venue you play at to show them some love! The 15 teams invited to the Championship are required to buy in, which earns them exclusive swag and other perks.
How will I know if my team qualified in the top 15?
Follow your standings right here on the Brain Play Leaderboard. At the conclusion of the 13 weeks, we'll reach out to your team directly through the email address connected to your team's account.
When and where will the Championship take place?
The Championship will be held sometime in October at a soon-to-be-announced LA location.
